The NJFCC welcomes film critics, writers, journalists, and content creators based in New Jersey who actively share their perspectives on cinema. Membership is open to anyone who regularly publishes reviews, essays, commentary, or other film-related content across platforms such as print, digital media, podcasts, video, social media, and more. We value a wide range of voices and encourage critics from all backgrounds and experience levels to apply.
To be considered for membership, applicants should demonstrate consistent engagement with film and provide samples of their work. We understand that criticism takes many forms, and we’re interested in hearing from people who bring insight, creativity, and curiosity to their coverage. Whether you're writing long-form essays, sharing capsule reviews on social media, hosting a podcast, or producing video content, what matters most is your perspective and the thoughtfulness behind your work.
While many critics groups have strict requirements around review frequency or audience size, our approach is different. We aim to be inclusive and supportive of emerging voices, independent writers, and anyone doing meaningful work in this space. If you watch at least 100 new films each year, we want to hear from you. It doesn’t matter how often you publish or how large your following is. If you don’t live in New Jersey but regularly attend screenings here, you are also welcome to apply.
Please note: We welcome a wide range of platforms, including online outlets, print publications, podcasts, video, and social media. However, a personal Letterboxd account on its own does not qualify as a primary outlet. If you use Letterboxd alongside another platform where you share your work, feel free to include it in your application.
